The petrol sold across India is blended with about 20% ethanol. Ethanol mixes completely with petrol, so a different blend looks, smells and pours the same.
Until now, checking what you paid for meant sending a sample to a lab. Petrol Pal puts that check in your pocket.
The clear cap that protects the sensor is also the sample cup. There’s nothing else to carry.
Take the cap off and fill it to the line with a little petrol from the nozzle.
Press the button and dip the gold paddle into the cap.
Pro shows the ethanol percentage. Go lights up green, white or red.

The sensing paddle is an interdigitated electrode: two combs of gold fingers that interlock without touching. Petrol fills the gaps, and the paddle measures how much electric charge the sample can hold.

Every liquid stores some electric charge in an electric field. Petrol stores very little; ethanol stores far more. So the more ethanol in the sample, the more charge the paddle holds. Petrol Pal measures that, corrects it for temperature, and turns it into an ethanol percentage.

A quick, clear answer for everyday riders and drivers.

The exact number, for enthusiasts and fleet owners.

After a test, Pro shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone and your result is added to the Petrol Pal map — no app, no account. When enough people test a pump, everyone can see how it compares with E20.

No. Petrol Pal is a consumer device that gives you a quick indication at the pump. It isn’t a certified laboratory test.
The share of ethanol in petrol. It doesn’t test for other substances, but an unusual reading is a sign worth checking.
Petrol Pal is still in development. The numbers on this page are what we are designing towards; we’ll publish confirmed figures once testing is done.
Two standard AAA cells, available everywhere. There is nothing to charge.
No. Go works on its own. With Pro, you can scan its QR code to add a test to the public map — no app or account needed.
